About Dr. Bard Schatzman

Hello, I am Dr. Bard Schatzman, Licensed Psychologist in both Missouri and Arizona. I have worked for many decades as a Licensed Psychologist providing mental health services to individuals, couples, families & groups of all ages. Mental health issues have ranged from life adjustments, developmental and parenting issues, to severe mental disorders. Issues presented and concerns may focus on substance usage, relationships, feeling depressed, anxious, lonely, fearful, traumatized, self-doubting, etc.
My approach to counseling is interactive, a therapeutic alliance in which you, the client, contributes to the decision-making in establishing and prioritizing goals, expectations, and course of treatments. By the end of the first session, we should agree to goals, expectations, and course of treatment. The intent of the initial session is to explore and discover more about you, to obtain a complete picture of what you are experiencing, and those influences that may be contributing to your issues and concerns. During the first session you will disclose what you feel is important for me to hear & know. Your comments will trigger my need to ask you additional related questions. My questions of you maybe of a historical biological, sociological and/or psychological nature. Following the first session, we will be more focused on being solution focused, using a mixture of counseling therapy approaches, such as psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, humanistic, and solution-focused therapy.
Everyone has challenges in life, expected and unexpected, ranging from difficult to overwhelming, maybe even devastating. Making the decision to attend counseling is frequently considered the last option in seeking help. It takes courage and willingness to be vulnerable to attend counseling. Making changes is difficult, it takes consistent effort, and determination. I appreciate your courage and willingness to be vulnerable, and I will be supportive and empowering of your efforts to meet our agreed upon goals. If you are ready for counseling, take the first step.
I look forward to working with you!

“Very knowledgeable and attentive”

“I’ve worked with several therapists, and Dr. Schatzman has been the most impactful. He is compassionate, honest, and deeply insightful. With his guidance, I’ve been able to work through relationship challenges, abandonment issues, and old wounds that once held me back. Each session leaves me with clarity, practical tools, and a stronger sense of direction. Working with him has truly been life-changing.”

“I like how he is bold yet tactful in how he responds to my therapy.”

“Dr. Schatzman has helped us to recognize and overcome the challenges we were having in our marriage. He listened carefully and attentively to each of us. Helped us recognize where our communication had become strained. Then, gave us tools and perspectives to come back together and find the center in our marriage. We would not have returned to the marriage we both had been missing. And desperately wanted to return to. Dr. Schatzman played a major role in saving our marriage. Thank you.”

“He listens to understand and provide helpful feedback and his follow up is great too which helps make therapy feel like he's not only a therapist but a close friend keeping tabs on the progress outside of our sessions.”

“I've had multiple therapists over two decades, and Dr Schatzman is far and away the best & most empathetic I've ever worked with. I'd recommend him to anyone looking for a good listener and an accountability buddy in your mental health journey.”

“Dr. Schatzman has been an excellent therapist for me. He listens well to my problems and took the time to understand me specifically, helping me to develop the tools I needed to handle my emotions myself moving forward. His recommendations were always easily manageable and well within reason for the problems I was facing. I can't overstate how much I appreciate having him to talk through my issues and find solutions for them.”

“My 1st session was great. With more sessions I anticipate my experiences will continue to be great”

“Dr. Schatzman is my first therapist, he truly helped me heal and close up any open wounds from my childhood trauma. He challenged me and gave me homework to work on, which kept me motivated. He not only validates you, but also makes you think deeply about the situations. I am honored to be paired with him. He is a great therapist.”
