Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
About Jerusha
Hello! My name is Jerusha Burton and I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Alabama. With 25 years and counting in the counseling field, I’ve had the opportunity to work with clients from diverse backgrounds. Often we feel stuck because as human beings we want immediacy and when change doesn’t happen fast enough we feel defeated. Sometimes the defeat consumes us and makes us believe that progress is too far away to achieve. I’m here to change that narrative, empowering you to look at the glass half full versus half empty. One of the biggest priorities I will focus on is teaching you how to treat yourself, how to celebrate every small step made and believing in yourself to know that every day you make an effort, you have done your best. As your therapist I am here to offer compassion, encouragement, professional guidance and practical tools to help you move more toward improved emotional wellness and a healthier, fulfilling life.
My counseling style is warm, empathic, supportive, client-centered and nonjudgmental. I believe that effective therapy begins when my clients know they are part of a safe environment, being heard, understood and respected. Everyone’s mental health journey is different and it is not linear. Therapy is a collaboration, with you being in the driver’s seat. Together, we will be able to identify strengths, address challenges and develop practical strategies for meaningful change. I utilize approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and other evidenced based interventions tailored to each client’s individual needs.
My clinical focus that I provide counseling services for at this time include the following: Depression, Grief/Loss, Bipolar Disorder, Psychosis NOS, Major Depression, Stress, Anger Management, Life Transitions, Self-Esteem, Anxiety, Mood Disorders, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Schizophrenia and Schizoaffective Disorder.
