About Dorothy Carskadon

Hi:
I am Dorrie or Dorothy, whichever you prefer. I have been a counselor for 28 years – 24 years working with Veterans and their families and the last 4 years on Better Help. I received my Master of Social Work degree from the University of South Carolina.

The foundation of therapy I use is positive psychology, the cognitive behavioral approach, emotional literacy, and intentional living to guide you through your issues. Positive psychology helps you to explore yourself through recognizing the positives in your life and accentuating them. The cognitive behavioral approach enables you to examine your decisions through understanding the connection between your thoughts, beliefs, physical reactions/responses, and behaviors. The emotional literacy approach examines how your emotions influence your decisions.

I call myself a resource counselor because I will provide you with a wealth of materials, including handouts, worksheets, articles, videos, and internet links, to review and hopefully apply to your life. I am a Christian and believe that the Bible expresses wisdom and encourages love. God made each of us unique, and “God saw that it was good.” I am an LGBTQ+ counselor.

As an experienced therapist, I will tailor my approach to meet your specific needs. My goal is to equip you with the tools to make informed decisions and help you enjoy life to the fullest.

“Dorothy is an amazing support”

“Dorrie has helped me a lot over these several months to teach me new habits to help with my ptsd, anxiety, and depression. She’s given me tools, and a lot of help through listening and guiding me through my thoughts that seemed difficult to work through but has provided amazing perspective. She’s a great listener and always is willing to work with you through things”

“Dorothy and me have been working together since Nov 2024. She is very helpful in listening to me and finding a sense of direction to help alleviate and restructure my life. Its a working progress though. You get in what you put out to therapy so as long as you're consistent life things will change and be better. She has helped me cross this bridge in life and continues to help me. Thank you!”

“She is caring with her words. She listens to what we say and not only repeats it, but expands it by adding what she thinks is behind the statement and asked if it’s true or not. I would highly recommend her.”

“Dorothy is very knowledgeable and offers great guidance and advice while offering hands-on exercises and interactive solutions”

“Dorothy is my life line”

“Dorothy is amazing. She has helped me through many stages of life. She is kind and organized in her therapy approach. Very reliable and detailed as well!”

“Really helped me a lot.”

“She is an excellent therapist. She attentively listens and provides me with a range of solutions to address my concerns. Instead of simply giving me what I desire, she offers what I require to progress in my daily life.”

“Dorothy is knowledgeable and attentive to the needs of her clients. She is a great listener. I highly recommend her.”

“She is very nice and helps me alot”

“Dorothy is a great therapist who made it her sole mission to help me find myself again after a hard time I went through. She listened to me no matter what I had to say and guided me to the path I need to be on. I look forward to always talking with her and seeing what she has in store for me next.”

“Very professional”

“Dorrie, as she prefers to be addressed; is very skillful at listening and zeroing in. If she were a physician, she knows right where it hurts. Having said that, I will add, Dorrie has a softness about her that is soothing at the same time. Creme' of the crop for sure.”

“Dorrie has been an amazing counselor and really helps to guide me in directions that open my knowledge and perspective. She has helped me to instill strength and confidence in myself and my relationship. I would recommend Dorrie as her resources, kind personality but straight forward, and overall approaches really cater to your goals and values and where you want to grow. Thank you dorrie!”
