About Valerie Wolfinger

I’m Valerie! As your therapist, it is my goal to see you become a better version of yourself. It is my belief that life’s experiences teach things about the world that may no longer be the most helpful or true today; even if they were true at the time in our past. When we don’t adapt and remain flexible, we find ourselves in a web of mistaken beliefs, thinking errors and unresolved life problems. As a result, it becomes too hard to find our way and manage life’s challenges in the here-and-now. I love to be present when my clients find a new way and authentically experience change. I’ve worked with clients from many walks of life and with varied needs. My areas of expertise are in Post Patrum, Fertility, Depression, Anxiety, Trauma, PTSD, Relationship Challenges, Solution Focused Brief Therapy as well as Substance Abuse. I use a Person Centered and Humanistic approach to help my clients bring out the best in themselves. I like to use humor, challenging questions, and a direct approach because I think in counseling we should get to the point, and we should have fun doing it.

My favorite activities when I’m not at work is spending time with my 4 amazing kiddos! I love to read; I’m a Netflix junkie and I love to cook! I graduated from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio with a major in Health and Human Services focus on Family Studies. I then went on to complete my master’s degree at the University of Dayton where I graduated Magnum Cum Laude.

Selecting a therapist on a platform like BetterHelp can be difficult because it’s not easy to know exactly what you are getting into. “Will this chick really know what she’s talking about? Is she a total Quack? Will she actually be able to help me?” These questions are the norm for clients and uncertainty comes with the territory of what you are searching for. It’s my hope that we will make a great team and you will become that better version of yourself you’re searching for.

“We're just beginning this journey, however, Val is great. I look forward to what comes next”

“Just love Valerie!!!”

“Valerie is great! She’s compassionate and straight-forward. She’s honest and real without making you feel bad about anything. She gives practical suggestions and follows up from week to week. Highly recommend!”

“She is extremely helpful and thoughtful! I am so happy I found her.”

“Valerie Horton helped me when I was coming out and when I was really discovering who I was and what I was doing to people around me. She helped me to become a better person and realize mistakes and flaws are ok but it’s how we learn and grow. She helped me from the first session to the last. Valerie truly helped me believe in myself and think about what is best for myself.”

“Since working with Valerie my life has changed in so many ways for the better and she has been supportive every step of the way. Before her I never would have imagined I would be where I am now. I would definitely recommend her!”

“Valerie is the best therapist I ever had.”

“Valerie is such a kind and understanding person! She is incredibly easy to talk to and exudes warmth. I would recommend her to anyone! She has helped me immensely in the time we have had together. She has certainly had a huge positive impact on my life and helped ne to overcome some of the hardest times in my life. She has been such a valuable asset and I will always be incredibly grateful to her.”

“Valerie has been so helpful, both in helping me work through past trauma and giving me techniques and coping mechanisms to cope better day to day. She’s a great listener and very easy to talk to - it feels like talking to a close friend. I’m very grateful for everything she’s done for me. Thank you!”

“Valerie is awesome. She listens, responds with empathy and advice, and has helped me tremendously through a tough and changing time in my life.”

“Valerie is very compassionate, a great listener, and an amazing counselor. She helped me develop the skills I needed to handle stress, anxiety, depression, and addiction. She is truly amazing!”

“Valerie is absolutely wonderful! She is caring, kind, considerate, compassionate, and supportive. I would not have made the progress that I have within the last few months without her advice and patience. She always responds promptly to messages and checks in throughout the week to see how things are going. I would highly recommend Valerie to everyone I know because of her level of professionalism and nurturing style that encourages you to make change without pushing you too far out of your comfort zone. She gives manageable "assignments" for the week that in the long run have helped me turn into the person that I want to become rather than stuck in a miserable place. I have noticed improvements with my confidence, happiness, and overall life satisfaction as a result of working with Valerie. She lets me speak and process my thoughts rather then telling me how I should feel which is very important for me in our client-practitioner relationship. Our video sessions are the highlight of my week and she is flexible to accommodate my busy schedule. 1,000,000/10 would definitely recommend Valerie!”

“Meeting with Valerie was very helpful and her communication style was straightforward, positive, and forward looking. She was encouraging and thoughtful with her feedback and provided clear next steps to tackle whatever situation you were facing. Most importantly, she really cares for her clients and remains invested in your well-being.”

“She is extremely sweet and helpful when I need her to be.”

“Extremely personable and effortless to talk to. Makes doing counseling so much easier”
