About Tara Knight

Hi and welcome!

You have taken the courageous step to a happier and healthier life…good for you!

I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor with 20 plus years of experience and am excited to work with you. Some of my specific areas of focus include depression and anxiety, family and relationship issues, trauma, grief and low self-esteem. My approach is simple and straight forward…I believe it is crucial to have a trusting relationship with your therapist. Through that relationship we will take a journey of discovery and transformation together. And along the way we will conquer the issues that are holding you back or simply stressing you out.

In therapy I typically utilize Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing with a general sense of Person Centered Therapy in which the therapeutic relationship is of utmost importance.

I began my career working in Substance Abuse running several treatment programs in Florida and North Carolina. Eventually I started my own general counseling practice in North Carolina where I spent many years working with adults, children and families. Most of my time with clients was focused on stress related issues, depression & anxiety, trauma, and relationship and family dynamics.

I look forward to starting this journey with you!

“Tara is an amazing therapist who takes the time to listen, and gives amazing feedback. She even takes time to research things when needed if its out of her expertise. I would recommend her to any and everyone! Shes helped me overcome so much.”

“Tara is extremely kind and compassionate, easy to talk to and non-judgemental. She offers helpful advice and other ways to think about the issues you may be experiencing. She helped me to navigate through a difficult period of time and gain perspective and work to set boundaries.”

“Tara is the best! She listens and genuinely cares about what is going on in my life, and offers practical advice that fits into my lifestyle to help me improve. I've been seeing Tara for almost a year, and at this point she feels like a best friend I catch up with weekly.”

“Tara has been an amazing and reliable support during a transitionary period in my life. She's an excellent listener with a relaxing interpersonal style that put me at ease and allowed me to open up. She's particularly skilled at helping me evaluate and challenge my patterns and beliefs for the better. Definitely recommend her!”

“Tara is an authentic, warm and caring counsellor who listens so very well and is very attuned. She is genuine, educated and experienced. She is easy to talk to and creates a safe space to be yourself and feel valued and respected. Her voice is very calming and she has helped me ground at times of distress and emotional upheaval with DBT techniques and other tools. I have waited several months to "evaluate" her because I don't personally trust face value too quickly, but what you see is what you get and Tara has earned my trust. I'm lucky to have found her.”

“Tara is awesome and genuinely cares so much about her patients. She remembers little details that I mention in passing and has given me tools to become a better version of myself. I feel like there’s still a lot of work to be done, but I feel supported and ready for the journey with Tara.”

“I feel so much better after talking things through with Tara. She listens patiently and she recommends an action which works. This tells me she understands what the issues I’m dealing with are. She’s great.”

“Tara really understands and listens. She is open and makes the space feel safe to talk and explains things well, and is encouraging in general.”

“Tara has been more than wonderful. I am only quitting therapy because I lost my job and I cannot afford it.”

“Thanks Tara! You are a therapist's therapist. So much gratitude!”

“I was skeptical about this style of counselling, but Tara immediately made me feel the benefits of it. Her listening skills are excellent and she recalls everything I've raised; even things I might of just mentioned in passing. I would definitely recommend her to others!”
