About Sus Austill

Your story honors me
As you have a path that is unique to you.
I offer to walk with you …
To provide support over rough ground,
To offer tools for repair or new directions
Or just a chance to tell your story.

I bring 40 years of sobriety, 39 years of parenting; 28 years of working with children, adolescent, adults and families in the areas of mental health, substance use disorders and crisis stabilization in settings including outpatient, residential and inpatient. Personally, I also benefitted greatly from six years of therapy as I believe a good therapist has a therapist. Thus, my style has become intuitive over time instead of using just one type of therapy. My virtual toolbox includes genograms, recovery based therapy, motivational interviewing, empathetic listening, gestalt therapy, cognitive-behaviorlal theory, narrative therapy, mindfulness and tai chi.

Areas of speciality include PTSD/Moral Injury/Compassion Fatigue; Substance Use/Abuse/Dependency; ADHD; LGBTQ+; Depression; Anxiety, Childhood Trauma and Family Systems. I especially welcome people who may feel marginalized or isolated in this time of heightened stress as we are coping with a pandemic.

I offer to walk with you to provide support over rough ground, to offer tools to ease your path forward or just a chance to rest and share your story in safety.

“Sus is very kind and experienced. Very gentle and patient.”

“Sus is amazing!!!”

“My therapist is wonderful! She’s helped me so much, and I cannot stand up good things about her. There was something on the survey and I can go back and fix it. But she’s top-tier and everything.”

“Sus is amazing and I will always keep her as my therapist!”

“Actively listens, has a gentle voice, and is kind and direct.”

“I am so grateful to have been matched with Sus through BetterHelp. She is a perfect fit for our family. During our first session, we connected so quickly, it was seemingly effortless, almost like a meant-to-be-friendship. Sus is wise, relatable, and balances her strength with equal tenderness. I am quite confident to highly recommend Sus!”

“Sus is a seasoned professional. Warm and caring.”

“Gives a good perspective and holds me accountable while also addressing and giving tools to work through my issues”

“Sus has been a miracle worker when it comes to my boyfriend’s perspective on couple’s counseling. Sus has changed our lives.”

“Sus has a diverse life experience and a causal welcoming conversation style.
I found it very easy to connect with Sus and she seems able to hold me accountable and challenge my ideas in the most productive ways.”

“Sus has been instrumental in taking the next steps in the healing journey and have been thankful for her help during life transitions.”

“I am very thankful to have Sus as my therapist. I feel safe to talk about anything in my sessions and I feel understood, and supported with all of it. My complex trauma, nerurodivergencies, queerness, and previous history of being in therapy has made me need an exceptional individual as my therapist nowadays. Sus has a lot of experience as a therapist and is able to instinctively tailor the session to what I need as support. Sus has helped me through major life changes; relationship and family issues; trauma and abuse I experienced as a youth and as an adult. And more that I don’t care to share in a review to strangers. But it is safe to say that Sus can handle an impressive variety of issues and still have you feel safe, understood, and supported. If you are looking for someone to help you I wholeheartedly recommend Sus!”

“I find it very hard to talk to a therapist and open up. I never realised how hard I found this until going through what I’ve been going through. I don’t want to be judged for the choices I made and I don’t like feeling vulnerable.
Sus is the only therapist I have genuinely wanted to open up to and talk honestly with. She is knowledgeable and someone I enjoy conversing with and listening to, she’s funny and quite a free open person with lots of life experience to share and relate with. I would definitely recommend Sus to help through a separation. She challenges you both and doesn’t take sides and gives a safe space to try and move forward together.”

“She is the absolute best ever!”

“Sus is a great therapist and a person. She is supportive and strong. Loads of experience and tools to share.”
