About Sarah Heyn

Hi! My name is Sarah, and I am a clinical social worker licensed in Wisconsin. I have over four years of clinical counseling experience working in a community clinic and private Christian counseling office, in addition to two years of graduate internships at UW Hospital and VA Hospital in Madison. I have worked with adults experiencing many distressing symptoms including depression, anxiety, self-esteem, grief, relationship issues, parenting concerns, life transition challenges, ADHD, LGBTQ specific concerns, and alcohol and drug use.

I am a respectful, strengths-based, client centered therapist. I strongly believe that my clients are the experts in their own lives. It is my goal to be a guide during a time when they may be overwhelmed with stressors or challenging symptoms. Together we will combine your personal strengths with tools from various therapies (including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Interpersonal Therapy) to create a treatment plan that is specific to your therapy goals. Before successful completion of therapy, you will have a positive action plan in place for responding to future stressors.

Because a healthy work and family life balance is important for everyone, I “practice what I preach”. I respond to messages left for me on this platform every Monday thru Friday business day until 2 p.m. Many of my clients have found it helpful to send a message in the evening or on Sunday, and I always respond to those messages first thing in the workday morning. I am also available to do live video or phone sessions between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m each business day.

Finally, because online counseling is still a somewhat newer technology for many people, I want to always be clear and transparent about limitations to the platform. I am unable to write letters for clients to the courts, lawyers, or medical professionals. I can, however, talk with you about ways to advocate for yourself through these systems from the perspective of a therapist.

YOU have taken a positive, first step in creating positive change in your life. Together we can take the next steps toward helping your reach your goal.

I look forward to working with you!

“I don't believe there is a better therapist out there. She has been my ride of die through some serious stuff. Can't thank her enough for all she has done for me.”

“She is the best!”

“Sarah has been a great guide in working through my issues. She uses research and research-based techniques, always respects where I’m at, and helps me build the tools I need to support my own mental health and well-being. I recommend her very highly.”

“I so appreciate having Sarah to reach out to and talk through my issues with. She knows my personality and struggles very well after almost a year of counseling together. We have come a long way to where I no longer require weekly sessions. When I’m meaning to talk to her but it slips my mind, she reaches out and checks in. This usually prompts me to make an appointment or to take the time to message about anything that may be going on or bothering me at the moment. Just all around very grateful for her!”

“Sarah is amazing”

“I find myself extremely fortunate to have been assigned Sarah as my counselor, we get get along very well and have a very similar sense of humor which helps when discussing some tough topics. I always find she is very knowledgeable about what I am talking about or issues I am going through and links other resources to help her illustrate or aid her counseling which I find to be a nice combination.”

“Sarah is someone I could be friends with. This makes it easier to talk to her and laugh while I'm crying, because sometimes I need that. I end up all over the place, and she just follows right along.”

“Sarah is amazing”

“Sarah is knowledgeable and skilled, highly understanding and I cannot recommend her enough. Since beginning counseling with her I have gained much healthier and happier ways of thinking and acting.”
