About Rodney “Rod” Smith

I am licensed in Missouri and Idaho, with several years of professional counseling experience. I have experience in helping clients with recovering from addictions, relationship, trauma and abuse, anxiety, & depression issues.
I have been through my own spiritual/therapeutic journey of change for the past 30 years that has enabled me to overcome my past addictions, feelings of depression, and sexual abuse. I tell you this because it is not only important that we have the clinical and professional experience (25 years experience in the behavioral health field), but that we have personal experience as well. I believe my authentic approach to counseling creates an atmosphere of honesty, trust, and acceptance that helps us to motivate ourselves towards making positive and tremendous changes in our lives.

Professional Experience
I have recently worked in a prison as a mental health professional for the past 7 years conducting individual and group therapy. I have worked over 25 years in the fields of mental health, addiction, and co-occurring disorders performing evaluations, therapeutic interventions, and individual and group therapy. In addition, I have education in Biblical guided counseling and have offered it to many of my clients at there request.

“Rod has a very unique and individualized approach to therapy. I don't think I'd be making the same kind of progress without his experience and expertise.”

“Rod has been an invaluable mentor and counselor, grounding our therapy sessions in our shared Christian faith. He challenges my world views and questions my self image in order to help me align them both more closely with Christ’s. I would highly recommend Rod as a therapist to anyone who wants to pursue healing through and deeper faith in Jesus Christ.”

“I started seeing this therapist during a very hard and difficult time in my life, and I’m incredibly grateful for the support and guidance he’s given me. He has helped me work through relationship challenges, understand recurring patterns, and—most importantly—learn how to set and build healthy boundaries. Through our work together, I’ve started changing the way I think and respond to situations, which has made a real difference in my life. He is thoughtful, supportive, and genuinely invested in helping his clients grow. I highly recommend him to anyone navigating relationship issues or personal growth.”

“Great therapy sessions”

“I have been treating with Mr. Smith for months now and it has helped me immensely. His vast experience as a therapist makes him well equipped to help through even the most difficult situations. He cares deeply about his clients and is fully committed to helping them, keeping them accountable, and focused on treatment goals. Over the years I have treated with multiple different therapists, but Mr. Smith has always been amongst the best and most effective for me. I still have a ways to go to see myself through some of the situations in life I am dealing with, but the progress I have made thus far I attribute to Mr. Smith’s dedication to never giving up on me and telling me not what I want to hear, but what I need to hear. I am eternally grateful for his continued professional help.”

“Engaging, helpful, respectful. Uses visual aids to help get the point across and is clear and direct.”

“Rod is very knowledgeable and calm. He approaches problems with clarity and curiosity.”

“For someone that has never reached out for therapy or counseling. Rod has been very professional and patient with me as I learn my way through this process!

Thank you!”
