Keep it Simple!
Greetings, potential BetterHelp client!
I am revising this BH bio on New Year’s Eve. This is an important time of changes: cleaning out the old and exploring the new. And that is how I treat the therapy process. I work with clients who want to eliminate and complete certain areas of their life, and to use that released energy to create new directions.
As you see above, my motto for everything is to “Keep It Simple.” And that includes every aspect of our lives. My therapeutic approach is to 1.) assess your current life situation, and then to 2.) teach a few basic lessons which , if practiced, will lead to your own development of a powerful set of “Self-Therapy” skills. Self-therapy – that should be the goal of every counselor and client.
Over several decades of studying and practicing a variety of counseling styles, the daily practice of working with the clients actually became simpler! I have created a simple program that demonstrated that search for simplicity.
Here is an idea of how that program works:
Step One: listen to the client’s challenging stories
Step Two: teach a simple exercise (a self-therapy tool) to address those challenges
Step Three: practice, and then repeat the first two steps!
Also, a touch of humor and artistic creativity can be very helpful in this process. Decide if/when you are prepared for a series of teaching sessions based on learning “Self-Therapy skills” before you click on my name as a BH counselor.
Practical Note: I prefer the “video session” format, because the “chat” and “phone” formats limit the quality of our exchanges. Also, around the clock “asynchronous messaging/journaling” is encouraged. My session days are Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
I look forward to traveling the Search for Simplicity path with you!
