About Porsha Coates

I am a Florida Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) who works with adolescents, adults, veterans, and individuals navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD-related challenges, life transitions, interpersonal difficulties, and family-related stressors. I am passionate about helping clients better understand the patterns, behaviors, and communication dynamics that may be contributing to emotional distress or difficulties within relationships.

I earned my Master of Science degree in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Hawaii and my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of North Florida. My approach to therapy is person-centered, collaborative, and holistic, integrating evidence-based interventions with mindfulness, emotional regulation strategies, behavioral techniques, and practical problem-solving skills tailored to each client’s individual needs.

I have a particular interest in family dynamics, communication challenges, emotional regulation, minority stress, self-development, and helping clients build healthier boundaries and more effective coping strategies. I strive to create a supportive and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel safe exploring difficult emotions, increasing self-awareness, and working toward meaningful and lasting growth.

As a retired Senior Non-Commissioned Officer from the United States Air Force, I also bring extensive experience and insight into military culture, veteran-related concerns, leadership, and the impact of high-stress environments on mental and emotional well-being.
