About Mary “Jackie” Downie

Hello! So glad you decided to stop by! I am Jackie Downie, Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
You are on your first step on your journey. Some are looking for self-improvement, some are searching for ways to handle anxiety and depression, some are hoping for a new path out of past challenges. I have over twenty years of experience in counseling and therapy. I have experience in getting people where they want to go in their lives. I would love to be there for you!
When I work with people, I start with what has worked for you in the past that we can bring forward again in your present challenges. Often people have overlooked their own positive qualities or ideas that can make a big difference. Together we will explore what from your past may be holding you back, and examine and think through new ways to think about your current life and situations. You might start with some new thoughts and behaviors that will create positive change.
I have worked with people experiencing anxiety, depression, attention challenges, trauma from childhood and teen years and trauma from more recent events. I have helped parents of kids of all ages and people in trouble at work. I have found ways for people who are extremely stressed by coworkers or managers to hang on and actually make their work lives better. I have helped those who have lost a special person to handle the phases of grief. Each person is an individual, with their own specific issues that they face in their lives that might be similar to others, but can never be exactly the same as another person.
I am happy you reached out here. You will find the support and assistance you deserve. Hope to talk with you soon!

“Great listener, providing suggestions and appropriate challenges to help me grow and see things in other ways”

“Focus platform for bettering my mental health”

“We have just.
Started working together but i'm very optimistic”

“I've just met Jackie, but she was an skilled and patient listener. I note 'skilled' because with so many ideas, emotions, and thoughts all clamoring to get out, Jackie was able to pick out the important part of my thoughts and dial in very quickly on what some of the key issues are for me at this point.”

“Jackie meets me where I am. That is the biggest gift. If you do not understand,, you never will.”

“My partner and I were on the verge of divorce when we first started working with Jackie, and I don't think it's an exaggeration at all to say she was instrumental in saving our marriage. From my perspective we're in a better place now than we were the day we got married. She's fantastic at making both parties feel heard and validated, and at working through issues in a way that feels genuinely supportive without it ever coming across like she's taking sides. Jackie's approach did so much more than treat the symptoms we were currently experiencing. Working with her, we learned better tools to communicate, to recognize when we were seeing an issue from different perspectives, and to make meaningful changes to how we engaged as partners.

Honestly, the one bittersweet part of sort of "graduating" from couple's therapy was no longer having a reason to meet with her. It's been I think a year and a half since we regularly met with Jackie, but when we recently encountered an issue we were struggling to resolve in a productive way, it felt like a no brainer to reach back out to her for support. I've recommended Jackie to pretty much anyone in my life who has expressed any sort of marital distress in the last couple of years, and I wouldn't hesitate in the slightest to do so again.”

“Wow, what an amazing, inspiring and wonderful therapist. She is so insightful and she can really get to the core, in a good way. She asks questions and I can tell that she really cares about her patients. 10/10, five stars all the way. She is the best!”

“We have met with Jackie over a year now and it is hard to express our gratitude for her. She is a very approachable and patient therapist that has a way of keeping both of us involved / engaged even when it is important for one of us to listen more. She is so intentional in understanding each of us individually, it has been very rewarding and fulfilling to see how our therapy has shifted in our growth. We love getting to meet with Jackie.”

“Jackie is amazing at counseling and extremely knowledgeable. She is a blessing for anyone that is working with her.”

“Jackie is kind and intentional, she has a way of delivering hard truths or helping them seem not too difficult to process. I would recommend Jackie to anyone for individual or couples therapy. She makes her clients feel like they are the most important part of her day and doesn't let time go by without checking in or sending a note.”

“Great insights! She really tried to help our difficult situation. Thank you for your time and ears!”

“Jackie came across as kind, respectful, welcoming, and genuine when we first started meeting with her. She has a wonderful delivery that is to the point but doesn't feel off-putting. She is able to focus our conversations really well and find connections through one example that we can then apply across many areas in our relationship.

I have most appreciated her reassurance to my partner and myself that we are practicing and we don't have to be perfect but being intentional about practicing our new tools is a show of our love for one another.”

“Extremely helpful, compassionate and respectful.”

“When I first joined ReGain, I was kind of at the end of my rope, and counseling was a last ditch effort to fix something I wasn't sure could be fixed. Jackie has done an incredible job bridging my partner's and my communication gaps, has helped us find more constructive ways to support each other, and strikes a great balance between validating the things that concern us about our relationship while also challenging us to try different approaches. I didn't actually realize how poorly we'd been doing long before we ever considered counseling until I recognized how hopeful I feel now. We've come a really long way in a very short time, and I don't think we'd have even known where to start without Jackie's help.”

“I won the therapist lottery when I was matched with Jackie. She is thoughtful and caring. She listens to me and provides helpful insights that help me become a better version of me. She is well versed and capable of handling a wide variety of issues and has helped me tremendously.”
