About Margaret Couch

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker practicing in the state of Illinois. I also have a Masters Degree in Education. I have over 30 years of experience working in the field of mental health. I consider it a privilege to have been invited into the lives of others as they seek to improve their daily lives.

I believe in meeting my clients where they are. Not where they are ‘expected’ to be. I will work with you as a whole person, not just as a diagnosis. I believe in an individual’s inherent dignity and right to self determination.

I would love to join you on your journey to positive change.

“We found Margaret after our first session with another therapist was not the right fit for us. We then had our concerns regarding whether therapy was going to work for us. But from the very first session, we knew we chose the perfect person. She's warm, understanding, gentle in her approach. She allowed us the space to be completely ourselves, to discuss openly our concerns and keep us both on track. We felt closer after just one session! This has really helped our understanding of each others needs, deepened our ability to communicate openly with each other without bickering and we are much better at prioritising each other day-to-day. In just 4 weeks of 2 couples sessions and an individual session each, we feel more aligned than ever. Thank you so much!”

“Grateful for her support and listening skills. Patient and kind! .”

“Margaret has been sweet, understanding and helpful. Ive tried many therapists in the past but never had a good experience until now.”

“Found Margaret to be very insightful and understanding about how to deal with our situation”

“Margaret Couch has a way of making you feel steady without pretending things are easy. I never felt rushed or talked over. She listens closely, notices what matters, and doesn’t jump in with stock phrases or forced optimism.

What stayed with me most is how grounded the sessions felt. Practical, thoughtful, and realistic — especially on days when you don’t need big breakthroughs, just something that helps you get through the week without spiraling. There’s a quiet sense of safety in how she works, which made it easier to be honest and not feel judged.

Progress here didn’t come as some dramatic “aha” moment. It came slowly — more clarity, less self-blame, and a growing sense that I could trust my own reactions again. That kind of change actually sticks.

If you’re looking for someone calm, perceptive, and genuinely human, I’d recommend her without hesitation.”

“She's been amazing at validating me and respecting me and helping me sort out my feelings during a hard time in my life”
