About Laurie Stricker

I completed my Master of Social Work degree in April of 1998 while working full-time . I had begun volunteering at a domestic violence shelter and was looking at methods for helping these at -risk families. My first job post Master’s degree was working in the foster care system. That led me to a better understanding of child welfare, family dynamics, and the legal system. I then moved back to my hometown in northeast Michigan to work as an infant mental health specialist. This opportunity gave me more skill in working with trauma, family therapy, and being comfortable in the client’s own home. My work at the local hospital’s behavioral health services expanded my ability to provide individual psychotherapy to people of all ages and background. I also developed proficiancy in working with in-patient units for substance abuse and mental illness. during my employment there. My move to the VA was a wonderful journey and extremely educational. At this point in my life I feel that my knowledge, background, and skills has made me a well rounded therapist. I am comfortable utilizing different modalities with a variety of clients.
