About Kathy Duncan

Hello, it is nice to meet you. My name is Kathy, and I live in Knoxville, TN. I have 33 years of experience working in the mental health profession and over 25 years of practice as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have extensive knowledge in the treatment of depression, mood disorders, anxiety, trauma, anger management, low self-esteem, relationship issues, ADHD and substance use. I have had the opportunity and privilege to work with individuals and couples dealing with difficult life circumstances, unexpected changes and past/present trauma. Over the course of my career, I have assisted individual in learning to manage some of the most difficult and often life-altering situations.

My approach combines cognitive behavioral, person-centered and psychodynamic therapy. I am particularly interested in the use of cognitive behavioral therapy as I firmly believe in the connection between our thoughts and how they affect our functioning. I will approach each visit with an open mind and non-judgmental attitude. I have had many former clients report that I am warm, empathetic, compassionate and affable. It is my belief that a strong therapeutic rapport is the foundation for a successful treatment outcome.

I look forward to meeting you soon and am so glad that you have decided to take this step forward in your journey towards better mental health.

“I love how Kathy made a positive impact on becoming a better person.”

“Kathy is an amazing source of knowledge and makes me feel like a human being again. Kathy validates my feelings and helps me see things in myself that I didn't think were there. Since starting with Kathy, I have managed in ways I never thought were possible. I appreciate her so much.”

“Kathy is a wonderful therapist. She helped me through a a very difficult time and gave me tools to continue to heal. Working with her as my therapist is a wonderful experience and I only wish I had found her sooner. She is extremely professional and knowledgeable. In addition, she is kind, understanding, and a great listener. She just gets it. I recommend her to anyone with a history of trauma they need to process or anyone just needing to talk through their issues.”

“Finding a therapist you click with, like I have with Kathy, has changed my life for the better. I have learned, grown, and healed so much with the baton she passed my way.

I will always be grateful for the map she shared with me, that she helped me remember that I also have. I feel like I have finally gotten my own life back; she helped me, come back to me.

Thank you, thank you, Kathy. I will always remember what I have learned with your guidance: I will never forget my True North.”

“I love Working with Kathy”

“Ms. Kathy has been so caring and thoughtful with my issues. She responds quickly when I have a problem and I truly feel like I finally have someone who I can talk to about my issues and who cares about helping. Highly recommend!”

“She's my favorite”

“She is awesome and always listens to me and has such great feedback. I really enjoy having her as my therapist. She is kind, nonjudgmental, a great listener, and offers different tools to help me get through my difficulties. I would definitely recommend her 10 out of ten!!!”

“Mrs. Kathy is a real gem and so happy to be connected to her. She is and has helped my mental health so much. I highly recommend.”

“I just want to say that Mrs. Kathy Duncan, has been a bright light in my life that has shined when I needed it the most. Although, we've only had the pleasure of meeting twice online, it's those two times that I've had more depth and more of my mind opened than any time before in therapy. Not only is Kathy understanding but she is also knowledgeable in her expertise and that alone has been enough for me to want to continue with her online...something I was very afraid of at first. She has also been gracious enough to send me things that are relevant to my situation that actually made sense and not just some random, "here you go" bits that didn't even have anything to do with what I am currently going thru. Most of all, she has made me feel comfortable in knowing that I will be ok. My situation will be ok. And for that I am truly grateful to have her as my therapist.”

“Therapy is very helpful to my recovery”

“Kathy is a great listener and is very mindful of the situation. She doesn't speak just to respond. She allows me to say whats on my mind and continue to express myself. She has also challenged (in a good way) me to allow me to see the truth of my situation.”

“She is awesome and such a good listener. She follows up with you the next day and is so helpful!!! I really enjoy my sessions with Kathy.”

“Kathy is a very warm and friendly therapist! I experienced none of the cold clinical feelings that some people fear when starting up therapy. We worked together for a brief time, but I feel even just our few sessions gave me a lot of much needed perspective and helpful strategies. I would definitely recommend her if you’re looking for a therapist who feels like a friend! Thank you, Kathy :)”
