About Jo Ellen Clark

I am licensed in California with 10 years of professional work experience. I have experience in helping clients with stress, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, family conflicts, coping with grief, & coping with loss. I work with my clients to create an open and safe environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment. It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. I am here to support & empower you in that journey.

I have experience working as a social worker in a medical environment. I worked for over six years in our local trauma center in the Acute Rehab Unit (ARU). Through this experience I worked with individuals and families in acute crisis. Individuals dealt with immediate life changes impacting income, living arrangements, supportive relationships and possible altered physicality short and/or long term. Depression, anxiety, and dealing with interpersonal relationships were all part of the process of processing the life altering event. This experience gave me the opportunity to work with all ages, socioeconomic levels, education levels, ethnicities, cultures and back grounds while using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Systems Theory, Cultural Competency (client as expert) and an individual client focused approach to assist the client with their goals.

I now work as a hospice social worker. Working with individuals and families dealing with end of life challenges, loss, grief and hopefully acceptance. Compassion, empathy, advocacy and listening are all pieces to assist individuals and families to cope with the end of life. It is not so different than working with any other client, I meet the client and families where they are. Assess one’s needs and establish goals for client centered work.

All the skills that are learned through my experiences are transferred to working with individuals whether it is life questions, road blocks to achieving goals or trauma to be worked through, the approach is met with companion, non judgement, support and open communication.

“Jo Ellen and I have only had two sessions so far but she is really helping me. It’s my first time doing therapy and she makes me feel very comfortable to share things with her.”

“Such a good listener! I don’t know if she’s just a really good note-taker or has an excellent memory, but I really appreciate how she’s able to keep track of all the details of my life that have come up, often it has been many weeks or even months since we last discussed a particular topic that she recalls very well… Very fair and reasonable in the guidance that she offers, and challenges me in really effective ways when it comes to how I’m responding to or interpreting things”

“Very nice
Makes you feel comfortable makes
Easy to talk too
Very understanding”

“I have tried therapy before and it never seemed to help and I never seemed to feel comfortable to share with a therapist. Ellen Clark is the most wonderful therapist I’ve ever had. She lets me rant for as long as I want, gives me advice, and always makes me laugh.”
