About Dr. Dianne Doyle Pita

Hi! I am a licensed psychologist, certified Master Addiction Counselor, and author. I have 20-plus years of experience working in private and public agencies, including hospitals, rehabilitation programs, and halfway houses. I have helped many people with a wide range of concerns including anxiety, depression, attachment, codependence, substance abuse and other addictive behaviors, relationship issues, parenting problems, and career challenges. I have also taught counseling courses and provided clinical supervision at a college level.
In addition to my Ph.D., in psychology from Boston University, I also have a post-doctorate in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (Sargent College, Boston University), as well as Certification in Rational Emotive Therapy.

I am the author of several textbooks on addiction counseling: Mastering Addictions Counseling, and Addiction Counseling (publication by Crossroads, NY, NY. In addition, I have co-authored a book on Severe Mental Illness and Addictions (Boston University, Integrated Treatment for People with Co-occurring Disorders).

My approach is warm and interactive. I believe in treating anyone with empathy and respect. I am non-judgmental and genuine.
My primary therapeutic approach is motivational interviewing and cognitive-behavioral therapy. Motivational interviewing helps you identify what it is you value and from that starting point, what goals you are motivated to achieve. We work together to create a treatment plan adapted to your individual needs and goals. Cognitive-behavioral therapy focuses on your beliefs or thoughts and the relationship between your thoughts, feelings, and behavior. We know that by changing our beliefs, we can change our feelings and behaviors. “Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is used to treat a wide range of issues. It’s often the preferred type of psychotherapy because it can quickly help you identify and cope with specific challenges. It generally requires fewer sessions than other types of therapy and is done in a structured way. (Mayoclinic, 2019). My approach includes a treatment plan and, usually, psychoeducation in the form of worksheets.

It takes courage to seek a more purposeful and satisfying life and to take the first step toward change. If you are ready to take that first step, I am here to support and empower you.

I look forward to working with you!

“Dr Doyle Pita has been the best therapy experience I’ve had in over 20 years of going to therapy. She is brilliant and asks questions that make you truly think. I can’t say enough about how impactful she is.”

“Dr. Doyle Pita is the best mental health professional I’ve worked with. Highly recommend”

“Dr. Doyle Pita brings great energy to the session and is kind, insightful, and empathetic. It's a pleasure to work with her.”

“Dr. Pita has provided the most eye opening perspectives and really helps me get to the root cause of some issues. She’s insightful, considerate and just real. The best experience I’ve ever had with a therapist.”

“Dr Pita is the best, easy to communicate with and very helpful.”

“Dr. Pita is a wonderful, supportive therapist whom I would highly recommend. My only issue is not with her, but with Better Help. I find it very challenging to schedule sessions in advance of more than a week. Dr, Pita is always accommodating to me regarding scheduling, and assists me when I can't book a specific date and time, but the site rarely allows me to schedule my desired time .outside of a week and it's very frustrating,”

“Best therapist I have ever had”

“Dr. Pita is an amazing listener and gives great advice”

“Very active in our conversations. Gives me things to think about and work on. Seems to understand the issues I laid out for her and keep them in mind as she is guiding me through the conversation.”

“She’s absolutely awesome in every way!”

“Dr. Pita was a great fit for me -- I had been wanting to find someone understanding of my challenges who would also "tell it like it is." I had been feeling stuck, and needed a more hands-on approach to guide me while making some important personal and professional decisions. I had many changes over the course of a few months, and I couldn't have navigated them without her. I'm very grateful for her insight and expertise.”

“I have been going to therapist in person for years on and off. After just 3 sessions with Dr. Pita, I feel the most heard & supported than I have felt in years! Life changing. Wish I’d found her sooner in my life”

“Dr. Dianne is wonderful. She is always great to talk to regardless of the topic. She talks me through stress and anxiety and always makes me feel better. I am lucky to have been paired with her!”

“I found betterhelp and Dr. Doyle right before the lockdowns started for the pandemic in late 2019…I was in a wildly psychologically abusive relationship and needed help and knew I needed a way to get therapy without the partner knowing….I was scared and wanted to get out. BH and Dr Doyle saved me! Literally. Especially after lockdown happened and I could just message or live chat w Dr Doyle. It’s been a few years now and I’m safely out of that abusive relationship and still work w Dr Doyle! She’s awesome.”

“I've been with Dr. Doyle for a few weeks now, and I'm already feeling better about myself. She's been open to my thoughts and reciprocal with insight. Every day feels closer to getting my life back on track, in a more positive way this time.”
