About Dr. Cheri Anderson

My name is Dr. Cheri Anderson and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Michigan with over 20 years of experience as a mental health psychotherapist and an International Certified Gambling Counselor. I have a PhD in Counseling and Clinical Supervision from Wayne State University. I am trained to use Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) with trauma clients. I provide counseling services to individuals, couples, and families who are experiencing emotional pain.
I also provide Christian counseling by addressing emotional pain from a Biblical perspective- if requested by the client.

I work with clients who are struggling with a variety of issues, but not limited to: depression, anxiety, low-self esteem, technology addictions, gambling addiction, marital issues, boundary issues, relationship issues, anger management, occupational burnout, post-traumatic stress, adjusting to college, conflict resolution, and life after
COVID-19, I use a cadre of therapeutic modalities: client-centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), behavioral therapy, & EMDR.

I meet clients where they are and I provide compassionate and caring emotional support. I provide clients with personalized treatment plans that help them reach their intrapersonal goals that lead towards emotional healing. Please keep in mind that emotional healing begins when you share your story.

I look forward to hearing your story and helping you along your journey to emotional healing.

“Dr. Anderson has been my therapist for 3 years. She has helped me through many breakthroughs. I had trouble finding a consistent therapist and then Dr. Anderson came along! I have learned so much and I have grown so much since meeting with Dr. Anderson! <br /> Dr. Anderson gave worksheets, used other tools besides just talk therapy to help breakthrough. I am a completely different person than when I first started!”

“I was able to open up and trust Dr Anderson and follow her advice which has helped me tremendously.”

“Really appreciate her God based Bible believing teaching really feel her compassion and concern and is very encouraging”

“Dr. Anderson is a very very experienced therapist, full of wisdom and tools to help her patients.”

“I have been working with Dr. Anderson for a couple of years now. I have not had a therapist this long before. While I am not the easiest client because I am also in the industry, Dr. Anderson has been helpful and patient and provides a lot of feedback. The energy is always positive. It took a while for me to trust and be open, but Dr. Anderson never took that personally, and that says a lot.”

“She’s well experienced, empathetic and a great therapist”

“Dr. Anderson is a very professional couple's therapist. My wife and I started seeing Dr. Anderson after my wife filed a protective order against me for verbal and emotional abuse, separating me from her and our new baby boy. Our relationship has been abusive in both directions for many years. Dr. Anderson recognized the bidirectional abuse as exemplifying a "gaslighting" relationship almost immediately. Dr. Anderson has focused on our primary concerns, which are communication issues, and after 7 months of couples therapy, we have gotten rid of the PPO and we are living together as a family once again. We are planning to continue working with Dr. Anderson as we resolve our remaining communication issues. I have confidence in Dr. Anderson's ability as an extremely professional couple's therapist.”

“Dr. Anderson and I have been working together for almost 2 years now. When I first met her, I was shut off and didn’t know how to open up. But 2 years later and we’ve had breakthroughs. With BetterHelp, I’m able to do therapy anywhere.”

“Dr. Anderson has helped me tremendously! I highly recommend her to anyone seeking understanding from childhood trauma & especially someone looking for a faith based therapist. In one year, I have gained a deeper understanding of myself and have been able to put a lot of pieces together about my life and different decisions I’ve made. I’m so thankful for her!”

“So happy we found Dr. Anderson as our therapist!”

“Dr Anderson is so knowledgeable, understanding, compassionate and positive. At a time where I am quite low, I end my sessions with hope that I can overcome”

“I appreciate Dr. Anderson’s Christian based counsel. I’m a Faith-filled woman who has benefited greatly from her words of wisdom influenced by the Word of God. She listens patiently as I lament on my good days and not so good days. She has given my good sound advice on alternative ways to deal with my stress, anxiety and sadness. She has given my self-care recommendations that I am working on right now, to put in place to refill my half full half empty mental and physical space.”

“Dr. Anderson is amazing! She has made such a huge difference in my life. I am on a path to healing from undiagnosed childhood trama. She provides great resources and training aids to help me heal. She is supportive and I really feel connected and safe with her in therapy. High recommend!”

“Great therapist”

“Dr. Anderson is a wonderful therapist. In 5 months she has helped me tremendously. I’ve been able to make connections from the trama I suffered as a child to how it’s affected my entire life and now I’m gaining skills that will help me move forward in life. Can’t recommend her enough.”
