There is no such thing as free Robux. Roblox says any offer of free Robux, subscriptions or valuable items is a scam meant to steal your child’s password, personal information or account, along with every Robux and item in it.
Kids fall for these scams because the offers look exciting, the people seem friendly, and the requests seem small. Here are the scams to warn your child about, the settings that protect their account, and what to do if they’ve already been scammed.
Fast Facts About Robux Scams
- Roblox has no sanctioned offers of free Robux, and it never asks for a password outside its own login page.[2]
- Roblox can’t recover items or Robux from deals made outside its official Trade and Sell features.[3]
- Making false purchase claims to get free Robux breaks Roblox’s rules and can get an account deleted.[1]
- Only scammers ask you to pay with a gift card and read them the numbers from the back.[4]
- People 17 and younger filed 13,168 complaints with the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center in 2025, reporting nearly $13 million in losses.[5]
The Robux Scams Kids Fall For
Free Robux Generators and Codes
Websites, videos and in-game messages promise free Robux if you enter your username and password, complete a survey, or use a “secret code.” Their real goal is to take the account.[1]
Fake Giveaways
A user or website announces a giveaway and asks players to log in on an outside page to claim it. Roblox warns never to enter your information on other pages, especially ones asking for it for a giveaway.[2]
Fake Roblox Staff
Someone claims to be a Roblox admin who can give free Robux or will ban the account unless your child cooperates. Real Roblox staff have the Roblox Admin badge in their badge list. Anyone without it should be reported.[2]
Links That Leave Roblox
Another player shares a link to a site off Roblox. Roblox says to treat it as spam or a possible attempt to steal personal information: don’t click it, and report the user.[2]
Trading Scams
Roblox lists these common tricks:[3]
- Using trades or sales to pay for accounts, real money or groups
- “Borrowing” an account or items
- Any deal where one person has to go first and trust the other
- Handing over an account or item for someone else to sell or trade
Gift Card Requests
A “friend” asks your child to buy a gift card and send the numbers on the back. The FTC is blunt: only scammers ask for gift card numbers and PINs, and no real business ever asks to be paid that way.[4]
Robux in Exchange for Pictures or Secrets
This is the most serious one. Offers of game currency or gifts are a common way adults build trust with children before asking for photos or private contact.[6] The FBI lists unexplained gifts, including gaming currency, as a warning sign that a child may be targeted.[7] If anyone offers your child Robux for a picture, it isn’t a scam to brush off. Report it, and read the Roblox predators guide.
If someone offered your child Robux for photos or private chats
- Save the username and messages before blocking anyone.
- Report the exploitation of a child to NCMEC’s CyberTipline at CyberTipline.org or 1-800-843-5678.
- Report the user with Roblox’s Report Abuse button.
How to Protect Your Child’s Roblox Account
- Turn on 2-Step Verification in Settings > Security, or add a passkey in Account Settings > Account info > Login Methods. Both make account takeovers much harder.[2]
- Link your parent account to set spending limits and decide who can contact your child.[8]
- Set the Trade Quality Filter in Account Settings > Privacy & content restrictions > Trading & inventory to hide lopsided trade offers.[3]
- Limit who can message or chat with your child in Privacy Settings.[1]
- Approve purchases. On iPhone and iPad, Ask to Buy sends you a request before your child can buy anything.[9]
Most of all, teach the rule Roblox gives kids: never enter your password anywhere but the Roblox login page, and never share it with another player.[1] The Roblox parental controls guide walks through each setting.
If Your Child Was Scammed
- Report the scammer with the Report Abuse buttons around Roblox and in every experience menu.[1]
- Secure the account. Change the password and turn on 2-Step Verification.[2]
- If gift cards were used, contact the gift card company right away, ask for a refund, and keep the card and receipt.[4]
- Report the scam to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.[4]
- Talk without blame. A child who expects to be punished is less likely to tell you next time, and the next time could be more serious.
