About Charles McBride (he/him)

I am a professional counselor, licensed in Oregon, with over 15 years of experience. I have worked as both a residential substance abuse treatment counselor and as a outpatient mental health counselor with an employee and family assistance program. I have worked with clients with a broad range of issues including substance abuse, depression, anxiety, relationship concerns and sexuality. I have also worked with first responders who have experienced trauma.

My counseling style is warm and supportive, with a little bit of humor thrown into the mix. All clients will be treated with respect and compassion, regardless of where they are on their life’s journey. I strongly believe that the client is the only expert of his/her/their life and it is my job to help each one reach their full potential. We enter counseling to change something in our lives; whatever we are currently doing isn’t working. But we must change how we think in order for our new behaviors to have lasting change.

To this end, my approach combines cognitive-behavioral, rational-emotive, and client-centered counseling. Just as each client is unique, each treatment plan must be as well. We will work together to create a plan that meets your specific needs. I look forward to our first session!

15 Reviews

“I love Charles! Selfishly, I don't want to leave a good review because I always want to be able to get on his schedule. If you are looking for no judgment, honestly, and humor, he is the one.”

“He can see what needs to be seen and often reveals it with humor.”

“In short, Charles does everything a therapist should do. When you just need to talk, he listens. When you need advice, he provides insightful commentary. He injects the appropriate amount of humour to keep it light, based on the client, which in my case is a lot. And, he allows you the space to work through the heavy moments. I have been meeting with Charles every week for several years and the progress I have made I once thought was impossible. I have transitioned from completely hopeless to truly believing there can be hope, and I could not have done it without Charles's help.”

“You can't find anyone better to visit with. He has the perfect mixture of listening, advice, and humor. I won't trust anyone else.”

“Charles has been great!”

“Charles has helped me a lot since we started. I wouldn’t be in a better spot since i started if it weren’t for his presence in my life”

“It's really early for me to write a review, after only one session. But I did feel that Charles listened, communicated, and offered what I felt I was looking for in a therapist, and I am looking forward to continuing this form of therapy.”

“Charles has been extremely helpful for my healing process. I look forward to continue working with him.”

“Excellent therapist”

“His wisdom and support has helped me through difficult times in my relationship, work, and my personal life. He's flexible with needs and forms of communication, as well as availability and discussion style.”

“Charles listens well and is very encouraging as we work to improve our relationship.”

“Very open and understanding, I also love that he’s in Oregon as well.”

“Charles has been very helpful to me and my future. I would recommend him to anyone going through relationship troubles, or going through life changes.”

“Charles does a great job listening, giving actionable things that you can do to better yourself and situation!”

“Charles is a very insightful and intuitive therapist. He is great at listening, but will also keep you on track and guide you through a train of thought making sure you don’t get lost along the way. He is very knowledgeable but also openminded and curious about topics he isn’t familiar with.”
