About Rell Spickerman

I have had two careers which run concurrently: many years as a parish pastor and at the same time a mental health counselor. I am strongly invested in the LGBTQ issues because of my transgender grandson’s amazing journey. As a hospice chaplain, I have provided bereavement support counseling to families. As a divorce mediator employing dispute management skills, I have guided couples in making parenting decisions that are in the best interests of their children. My passion is not to be a sage on the stage but a guide by the side with individuals and couples seeking solutions that are practical. I have expertise in cognitive -behavioral counseling, rational emotive psychotherapy, anger management (especially with men who abuse), and Life Work Planning and Career Development. I have modest experience with Ericksonian Hypnotherapy and Healing Story Telling. I endeavor to blend theory and practice, while affirming growth and risk-taking. I am a non-judgmental listener. I employ humor and unconditional support routinely to neutralize resistance to change. I am old fashioned person who still believes in unconditional positive regard and seeking a truth that sets people free.

“Thoughtful, pulls no punches, great listener and tells you nothing but the truth. And a great man.”

“Rell is amazing. Very relatable, and we are always ALL EARS when he talks. He's great and we've seen substantial progress since our first meeting.”

“Sweet and kind human being with a lot of insight. Does not tell me how to feel and listens to my concerns.”

“Rick is the most helpful therapist that I have ever had. He actually listens, provides insight and validates experiences. He doesn't tell me how to handle situations definitively like other therapists have tried doing. He provides suggestions and feedback, and his opinion, but he leaves room for my opinion and honors where I am at in the process. He promotes ways for me to further sift information on my own, and empowers me to pay attention to emotions, words, actions, of my own and others, and to ultimately make my own, healthier decisions.”

“Rell is a wonderful listener. He is both empathetic and ready to offer specific guidance. Talking with him feels like talking with a trusted friend, one who always has your back and knows to help you find your own strength. He has helped tremendously in dealing with long-existing issues that I never thought I would be able to free myself from. His wisdom and his warmth are unparalleled.”

“My session was great as well as the communication, I’m highly satisfied!”

“Rell is a model therapist: empathetic, lucid, and inspiring. I have total confidence in his ability to help me navigate challenging situations and find my own balance. Rell also knows how to offer guidance for the present moment while thinking about long-term goals. I can't think of a better person and professional.”
