About Darla McAdams

I am a licensed Counselor in the State of Missouri with close to 7 years of professional experience. I enjoy working with any age range as well as a broad variety of concerns, including LGBTQ and people of color.. Part of my work has been with young women age 17 to 30 who struggled with substance use, abuse, eating disorders and self esteem issues. I have also worked for over three years with adults and elderly who struggled with substance use, anxiety, depression, homelessness, trauma, emotional abuse, family and relationship issues, co-dependency, loss and grief.

I believe that each client be treated with warmth, respect and value. Each session is a safe place without any judgment. My approach varies depending on the specific needs and goals of each individual. I utilize mindfulness, CBT, DBT, and Solution-Focused Therapy the most. I also believe strongly in the approach of Person-Centered Therapy and that each individual has within them the ability to create change and move towards being the best that they can be. I am here to listen and help guide you in that process.

I know that with the added challenges we have all faced from COVID, life has been more difficult for many. I commend you for reaching out to seek assistance in navigating your daily challenges and seeking a happier life. I would be honored to work with you in reaching towards whatever changes and goals you desire.

I look forward to having the opportunity to work with you.

“Very thorough and knowledgeable, attentive and understanding of needs. Really helped me understand and navigate tough confusing feelings.”

“I absolutely love Darla! Highly Recommend”

“Darla McAdams is very respectful and kind in every aspect. I have had a great experience! She speaks very clearly and intelligently. She allows me time to process my emotions and thoughts without pressure or rushing me. She helps me understand the hard topics and encourages me to come up with solutions myself before her input and this has really helped me in my day to day life.”

“I have never felt more safe with a therapist than with Darla she has helped me grow and continue to grow more into the me I thought I couldn’t ever connect to.”

“I've really appreciated my time in therapy with Darla. I feel like she has made the effort to connect with me and she makes me feel heard and taken seriously. I've worked in the mental health field myself and I've been dealing with my own mental health for over half my life so I'm fairly familiar with various treatments and methods and what works for me and what doesn't - Darla listens to what I need and offers options, but doesn't try to push on things that I feel won't be beneficial to me. She has responded to every need I've voiced and my only regret is that my company only allots eight sessions - I wish I had the option for more sessions with her!”

“Darla is a great therapist and isn’t afraid to tell you exactly what you need to hear. She has helped me immensely in a short period of time.”

“I can't thank Darla enough. I didn't know what to expect or how comfortable I would be meeting with a therapist. Many visits later I am beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel. If it wasn't for Darla I'm not sure I would have ever gained enough charity to restore my hope. We aren't done just yet. However, I look forward to each of our sessions and I'm confident that with Darla's guidance and support I will get to where I'm intended to be.”

“Darla has been awesome in sending me information that is helpful. I’ve had one session and look forward to more.”

“She’s an incredible listener and gave very helpful tools for the goals I wanted to reach”

“Love Darla! I don't know where I would be without her help and guidance!”

“I’ve loved working with Darla these past few months. My experience with her has completely changed my view on therapy and I’m grateful to have the opportunity to learn from her!”

“She has helped me get through so much. I would definitely recommend her anytime”

“She is by far one of the most caring and compassionate people I have had the honor of interacting with. I'm not certain why but her voice has a calming aspect to it while she speaks the truth... she tell it in a why that can't be taken a harmful and that's truly abretah of fresh air in this world.”

“All I can say is I believe this is gonna be an eye opening journey for me. I’ve only had a few sessions with Darla so it’s still in the me unloading stage. However her responses and literature that she is sending me to review are spot on!!! I feel this is going to work out great.”

“She is so good at helping me dig deep and make real changes! I'm thankful I found her!”
