About Kristen Gaughan

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Pennsylvania with over 20 years of clinical experience in the behavioral health field. I’ve worked in a variety of treatment settings with a wide range of clients. I have extensive experience treating mental health issues, as well as substance use and process addiction (gambling, eating, sex, spending, etc.) issues. I am truly passionate about helping people in need, having decided to become a counselor at the age of 13. I hold a Bachelor’s degree from York College of Pennsylvania with a double major in Psychology and Sociology and double minors in Criminal Justice Corrections and German. I also received a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania. My work as a counselor is not just a job, but a true vocation. I am committed to helping each and every one of my clients to live their healthiest life. I look forward to continuing to work to help people to find the peace, joy, and contentment they deserve in their lives. Please note that due to the nature of the Betterhelp.com platform, I am unable to write letters on my client’s behalf.

“We have only had one session but it was an extremely enjoyable time. She is an amazing listener and gives honest feedback. I feel like i am talking to a real human rather than a therapist who is numb to most situations. Been there, done that!”

“I appreciate Kristen’s approach. She’s aware that I’m also a therapist but she doesn’t allow me to home behind that. She sees and hears me and challenges me to draw own my skills and apply them to myself. Kristen has helped me to accept my need to find answers and I’ve felt validated and empowered after my sessions.”

“Great listener. Experienced. Takes the time to understand and ask questions and provide guidance towards solutions. Influences conclusions without forcing them.”

“Kristen is empathetic, kind, considerate and an amazing listener. Yes, she gets paid to be these things, but it's deeper than that. I feel heard. She doesn't pull any punches, calls me out when she needs to, and has helped me tremendously in my journey to find myself again!”

“Even though we have had only one session, our therapist was attentive and informative. I feel confident that with time and effort on our part we will see progress and resolution.”
