About Shirley Currier

I became interested in counseling through my own recovery from addiction. Thirty -four years ago, with seven years in my own recovery, I became a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. I worked in the office of a psychiatrist as a counselor for his patients with addictions. I soon realized that in many cases the addiction and abuse of substances was a symptom of other mental and psychological problems. So in 2000 I went back to school for a Masters in Clinical Psychology.

I have worked in physician’s offices, non profit agencies, day treatment programs, and with the courts in Harris County in diversion programs with offenders. I am experienced in many approaches, cognitive-behavioral, psycho-dynamic, solution focused and trauma recovery. I view my clients as experts about their problem based struggles and simply offer my experience and knowledge in working to find a path to recovery together. I am accepting of different life-style choices and a liberal thinker.

If you are ready to begin your journey, I would be honored to accompany you.
