About Marva Beckford

Hi, If you are on here you are seeking some help and support and struggling with something significant in your life. Finding the right person to help you through these challenges is very important. I would like to provide you with some information about me to see if we are a good fit. I’m a hard-working, highly motivated therapist with over 15 years of experience in social work as a clinician/therapist.

Much of my experience has been working with people who are struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, LGBTQ+ issues, substance abuse, and self-esteem issues. You can expect me to walk with you through whatever difficulties you are facing and help you learn more about yourself and the way you interact with the world. The feedback I receive from clients is that they find me to be caring and non-judgmental, and they appreciate that I am honest and direct with them. I have excellent communication, organizational, problem solving, interpersonal and adaptive skills. I am able to work with a diverse and challenging client population.

During the Covid epidemic, all sessions are conducted via video sessions so that we can get to know each other better. But I am also available to you via phone and text if that is more comfortable for you. A majority of my availability is during the day but I can be available during the evening hours depending on your needs.

I know how hard it can be to find a counselor who you feel a connection with and I would be honored to work with you through this stage of your life.

“Marva was fantastic. She listened to what I had to say and then offered a variety of ways I might be able to work through what I was feeling. Having different methods really helped me to find something that worked best for me. She helped me to set goals and take baby steps to get to more comfortable place than where I was. Marva is lovely to work with.”

“Marva is amazing! I came in with so many issues and she never judged one. She was open to hear me and made me feel like I was in a safe space. She knew the right questions to ask and help me with my problems. I have never felt this happy or at peace. Truly an amazing therapist”

“Marva is amazing :)”

I would highly recommend her to anyone who wants to change things in there life for the better! She is very understanding and works with you to achieve goals that you set. 10 out of 10 would recommend!!”

“We love Marva! She’s very kind and patient. She really tries to understand each of us, in a way that makes us both feel heard and supported. We really look forward to seeing her each week.”

“Good listener.”

“She’s great. I feel very safe and listened to with her.”

“Marva has been my therapist for a year and 2 months. She has helped me with a few major life events as well as addressing trauma from my childhood. She was very good at assessing what areas I needed help with and addressing them as well as emphasizing my strengths .

If you're afraid of cbt and find it counterproductive, she gently challenges perspectives and only introduces aspects of cbt as you become ready for it. Her main focus is on you regaining trust for yourself, self-compassion, and self-validation. Good therapy has you feeling uncomfortable at times and pushing yourself to do things, but Marva keeps it at a good pace so you are not overwhelmed. She is clearly very trauma informed.

I definitely recommend her if you have a trauma history.”

“Thanks for listening to me and making sure I am heard. You've helped me a lot through the past few weeks and I look forward to our conversations. Thank you again.”

“Hello, I appreciate that Ms. Marca heard me put in my 1st session. Looking forward to my future sessions.”

“I appreciate having someone to talk to transparently.”

“Extremely helpful and understanding”

“Although I only had one session with her, I have to say I'm astounded with how much it helped me in just 45 minutes. She basically allowed me to speak the whole time, only asking very honest, cathartic questions in between. Based on what she would ask, I could tell she was very attentive and I felt really listened to. Sometimes I have trouble being honest with therapists but her calming presence along with her putting me on the spot with some tough but necessary questions really helped me open up.”

“Ms. Marva has been a great support in tough times and fundamental to my personal growth. I couldn’t ask for anyone better. I’m thankful to have been matched with her. She is the absolute best I’ve ever had.”

“She’s a good listener”
