About Lani Ete

I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor. I began my college education in a humble town located in Hawaii where I was raised until the age of 21. I completed my undergraduate degree in psychology through distance learning and later earned my Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling in 2007 from the University of Phoenix. I currently practice via online telehealth only and have done so since the beginning of the COVID pandemic.

My therapy approach is eclectic, meaning I combine different therapeutic approaches based on the presenting concerns and goals that are adapted to the needs of the person via the use of cognitive-behavioral, person-centered, brief therapy and solution-focused therapy with particular attention to the psychoanalytic processes, which emphasizes how life events and relationship experiences both past and present may be affecting your current issues and circumstances. What I can bring to the counseling environment to help you with this is a style that I believe to be approachable and warm so that my patients are able to 1) actively process and explore, 2) find their way, 3) learn about themselves and 4) grow to be directors of their life.

In short, to help you have the most successful experience in counseling it is important to me that we work together in establishing what your needs are and how I can be of most benefit to you. With that comes responsibility for your mental health and dedication of your time to your mental health needs. To be more specific, I ask that you not just do therapy sessions once a week for 30-45 minutes but that you have a proactive and committed intention of working on your mental health needs outside of therapy as well via homework that is completed in a timely manner as opposed to completing it right before your sessions; I need time to look over said homework and cannot do this effectively when it is sent back the day of.

I am genuinely interested in what brings you to therapy and hope that you would feel comfortable working with me as I look forward to working with you.

“I have loved working with Lani. She listens to me and gives advice that works. She doesn't talk about herself and what she has been through, and I appreciate that.”

“Enjoying it so far I’m gaining a great perspective on a path to recovery.”

“Lani has really helped me to be a less stressed, more confident person, and helped me to be able to navigate relationships and show up for others in better ways and without being overwhelmed. She has really helped me change the way I see the world to reframe things in a more balanced way. She has done so much to identify thought patterns and beliefs to challenge and taught me more functional and effective thought patterns. She supported me through these transitions with compassion and empathy and supported me as I navigated some tough interpersonal situations too. I would definitely recommend her as a therapist!”

“Great opportunity to have a guidance through mental health, which is a maze to try to navigate.”

“Good therapist”

“Lani has been insightful and kind, and helped me work through tough issues and challenge beliefs that have been buried deep for a long time in a way that makes me feel safe not judged. I would definitely recommend her as a therapist.”

“She’s very professional and understanding. She is great with communication which helps me a lot.”

“Thank you so much for your help. You are very knowledgeable and kind. After talking with you, I feel much better and more clear in my mind. I really appreciate you and your help.”

“Lani has been very professional and very helpful. I glad that I got her as a therapist.”

“Lani is very knowledgeable in her field she presents herself well, I couldn't have gotten a better therapist than her.”

“Humble expertise. Validated me when I was emotional, and also challenged my stinkin’ thinkin’.”

“Lani has been so helpful! She has made sure to understand my concerns and goals, and then helped me explore relevant conditions and types of therapy that can help. For so long I didn’t know quite how to describe what was wrong and what I needed help with, but I knew I didn’t have the relationships I wanted. She has helped me explore and challenge my beliefs about myself and others in ways that have really helped me to start to overcome them and see changes in my life!”

“Lani does an excellent job of listening + picking up on subtle things that you say to elaborate + focus on what the meaning they have. She provides an educated, experienced + outside the box perspective.”

“Lani is great to work with. She listens to my concerns when I have them, but also provides me with other things to work on when there isn’t something specific I need to talk about.”
