About Aileen Stein

Hello. Welcome to my profile. I am a licensed psychotherapist since 1992 in both New York and California. I believe that building a trusting relationship in a safe environment is the first step toward successful therapy. Psychotherapy is a two-way relationship. One of my strengths is listening. I feel one of the most basic wishes of a client is to be heard. I want to understand the issues the client identifies as well as the unspoken issues that may impede growth. My work begins “where the client is” with no agenda or judgment. As our work together progresses, I will encourage and motivate the client toward reaching goals he or she has set. However, I will employ these methods in a timely manner, when I determine the client is ready to take another step forward.

I primarily practice Psychodynamic Psychotherapy . I’m also schooled in Motivational Interviewing and Mindfulness Therapy. I studied at New York University where I received my MSW in 1992. I’ve treated children, adults and seniors and am passionate about working with all age groups. It’s very fulfilling to witness people reach their goals.

I have experience in a variety of settings, including hospitals as a medical social worker and counseling centers as a psychotherapist. I’ve also worked in Intensive Outpatient Programs treating the chronically mentally ill. Among the issues I’ve explored with clients are depression, anxiety and health issues, as well as domestic violence, PTSD and trauma. I check messages several times per day and will respond within 24 hours.

Thank you for reading my profile. I look forward to meeting you.

“Aileen is a thoughtful and effective therapist. She listens intently without judgement, and will often take time outside of sessions to research and recommend exercises or techniques for working through difficult situations.”

“Aileen and I met weekly or biweekly over the course of 2022 following the sudden passing of my mother and a number of other major life transitions that fell on me all at once. I found our sessions very useful and by the end of the year felt like I was in a positive enough place to end therapy. She is very professional, offers good feedback, and I felt like she really listened to me. I highly recommend Aileen for anyone dealing with grief, relationship issues, and general stress and would return to her in the future if I feel the need for regular therapy again.”

“Aileen is wonderful, she is a great listener and has been tremendous support during my healing time. I feel very lucky to have found a therapist that understands and is there when you need her.”

“Amazing ability to listen and provide support”

“Aileen is an extremely patient therapist. I enjoyed my therapy with her, and it feels like she takes me to explore my mental world and teach me a lot about my anger, my communications, and relationships.”

“Aileen is great. Very friendly, understanding and helpful”

“Aileen was very kind, open, and patient to work with. She is understanding and a wonderful listener, which makes it easy to open up to her. Ultimately, we agreed that the scope of my challenges would require more specialised treatment elsewhere, but I appreciated her honesty and felt comfortable in the sessions we had.”
